The working hours of Greek banks are quite short and thus, not very reliable - until 2:30 PM on Monday to Thursdays and only till 2:00 PM on Fridays. On weekends, all the banks are shut. Following are a few pointers that will help you have a quick and hassle-free experience regarding managing your finances in Greece.

• Avoid exchanging money at airports and hotels, unless very necessary as these will usually have a poorer exchange rate than ATM's or Banks.
• Check for the mid-market rates before exchanging currency to know if you are getting a fair rate.
• While exchanging money, try to give undamaged banknotes of your home currency and get the Euros in a similar state.
• Carry ample amounts of cash. While credit and debit cards are usually accepted in bigger towns, cash is a safe bet if you are travelling to the remote islands in the Mediterranean Sea.
• You maybe offered an option to transact your card in the home currency. Decline the same as in such a case, the exchange rate is decided by the Greek Banks rather than your home bank increasing your chances of being swindled.
