Getting around in Dubai

Being a small city which is a popular tourist spot, Dubai is well connected with the help of taxis, self-driven cars, metro, bus, boat and even bicycles.

There are several car rental options available in Dubai but to be able to drive a car around travellers need to have their international drivers license, passport, credit card and insurance at all times when driving. For those looking for a more luxurious option, there are luxury car rentals that allow rentals with the likes of Bentleys and Bugattis.

The taxi service in Dubai is quite reliable with taxis available every few metres at all times of the day. Even though taxis are reasonably priced throughout taxis, the prices might vary based on the time of the day or the tolls. There are online booking apps like Uber and Careem which can book cabs in an instant.

The railway system in Dubai runs Metros, Trams and Monorails. Dubai has one of the most advanced metro systems which are driver less and have fixed schedules for easy booking. An additional pro when travelling via overground metro is the stunning views that come along the way. Dubai Metro tickets can be purchased in the form of a NOL Card which is used to pay for bus trams and taxi fares as well. The Dubai Tram runs for a period of 42 minutes from Al Sufouh to Jumeirah Beach Residences. The tram provides easy access to tourist spots like Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers and more.

Dubai buses are comfortable, air-conditioned rides that are around 1500 in number and go around the city often. They make for a cheap travel option allowing tourists to travel like a local and also visit the top attractions with ease.

There are many types of boats that can give travellers the thrill of the waters when travelling to the beach-side areas in Dubai. The quintessential Dhow boats and Abras give the feel of travelling back in time on Dubai's conventional method of transportation. A ride down Dubai Creek or through Souk Madinat Jumeirah is the perfect way to appreciate a dinner cruise on the bigger dhow boat. Ferries and water taxis can cost just upto AED15, taking tourists from Business Bay to the Marina via Dubai Canal.
