What is a Schengen Visa?

A Schengen visa is mandatory for travelling to any of the Schengen regions for a short period of up to 90 days. These regions refer to the EU passport-free zones which usually comprise of most, if not all,  European countries. The Schengen zone includes countries like Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein and they all can be part of your itinerary too! Unless your visit includes studying, working or staying in Europe, having a Schengen Visa does the task.

What’s new?

Following February this year, the fee for this visa will be increased from Euro 60(₹4,729 approx) to Euro 80(₹6,306 approx). The same goes for children aged between six and 12 who will now have to pay Euro 40 ( ₹3,153 approx) instead of Euro 35 ( ₹2758 approx). Kids below six years are exempted from any fees. The Council and European Parliament gave a thumbs up to the new visa codes last year which resulted in these updates. The visa application period has also been increased from three to six months now, given the new codes.

So, now that you know almost everything about the Schengen Visa, there’s nothing stopping you from taking that exhilarating Euro trip!
