Lambasingi- The Only Place In South India Where It Snows!

While planning for a winter vacation, the quaint valleys and chilling temperatures of popular destinations like Gulmarg, Manali and Nainital are normally a top-choice for most travellers. If you like most people are planning to choose these destinations over South India during winter however, then you might want to reconsider your plans for a vacation this time.

Where in South India?

Situated at an altitude of 1025 meters above sea level in Vishakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, Lambasingi is the only place in South India to have experienced snowfall in the past. Fondly known as the ‘Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh’, it experiences pleasant temperatures throughout the year. Covered with an ethereal white mist that seems to move with the wind, temperatures here can go below zero degree Celsius in winter causing snowfall. In fact, it is also known as Korra Bayalu in their local language, which translates to “if someone stays out in the open they would freeze like a stick!”. Interestingly, while the temperatures here stay below 10 degrees Celsius throughout the year, nearby villages located just 2 km away have temperatures similar to any typical place in South India.

While you can get plan a trip here just for its charming weather, this stunning destination has a lot more to offer than just that for its visitors.

Kothapally Waterfalls

Located just 27 km. away from Lambasingi, the waterfalls cascade over tiered rocks into a pretty plunge pool below. With a tropical rainforest surrounding it, this dramatic waterfall will make you swoon over the beauty and power of nature. A popular spot for tourists, it is perfect for a relaxing dip.

The perfect weather conditions here make it an ideal destination for sitting around a cozy bonfire or enjoying a barbeque with friends. Carry your own tent and supplies to spend a perfect night gazing at millions of stars that light up the clear skies here every night.

Visit Susan garden

On your way to Lambasingi, you can visit the Susan garden to relax and soak in the beauty of some amazing flowers. With a beautiful view of yellow and black flowers, this garden is picture perfect! Open to all, plan a visit here during sunset when the sky turns into a vivid hue of colours adding to the gorgeousness of the surroundings.

From rappelling to trekking and even recreational rock climbing, there are a lot of activities for adventure enthusiasts. While you try your hand at these activities, observe the beautiful moods of nature and savor the refreshingly cool breeze around you.

Take a stroll through coffee and pepper plantations

The main occupation of the residents here is coffee and pepper farming. In winter, this tiny hamlet is blessed with a sprinkling of wildflowers and silvery clouds. A lazy morning stroll through these cloud-kissed plantations is a perfect way to luxuriate in the lap of nature.

Best time to visit

With a blissful temperature all through the year, you can visit it at any time. However, to experience winters here, November-January is the best time to visit the destination.

How to reach

Lambasingi is well-connected to Vishakhapatnam and is just a 100 km. drive from there. Hire a private car or take a state transport bus to reach the town. If you are planning to reach there by train, then Narsipatnam is the nearest railway station and is located just 31 km. away.

The hills, the valleys and the dense forests make this scarcely populated hamlet a must visit place during winters. While snowfall makes the experience a hundred times better, there is a possibility of you not catching a glimpse of it during your stay. Irrespective of that, you can however be sure to be awe-struck by its natural splendour and tranquility that has amazed visitors over the years.
