TRAVEL TIPS FOR TURKEY
Choose your accommodation wisely: Make sure that you choose your accommodation wisely. If you are on a budget, you can choose from an entire range of budget hotels and apartments in Istanbul. It might be difficult to find apartments beyond Istanbul, but pansiyons (pensions aka B&B) are plenty. These are quaint houses converted into B&B’s, have the personal touch of a small property, and are value for money.
Pick up some Turkish words: Let alone any other part of the country, even Istanbul does not have many English speakers. Communication can be a major problem and to overcome the language barrier, it is advised that you learn some Turkish words. Since Turkish script is similar to English, road signs are easy to read.
Beware of scams: Beware of scams so that you are not tricked. Make sure that you are well aware of the scams common in the country.
Use public transport: Public transport in Istanbul is quite convenient. All journeys by bus, tram or metro are priced at 2 TL, irrespective of the distance you cover. You can easily get a cab past midnight. All major cities and towns are well connected by private buses. These buses are equipped with free Wifi, and on longer journeys, you are served beverages and snacks.
